Meet the designer
Sam Roberts
I'm Sam Roberts — a creative director, writer, and multidisciplinary artist based in Portland, Oregon.
I work at the intersection of brand direction, editorial design, and writing because the projects I find most interesting usually need more than one kind of attention at once. A brand that needs a sharper reader. A manuscript that also needs a designed object. A body of work that needs both direction and a form. Saint Violet is the practice I built to hold all of that.
I do this work directly — every brand audit, every identity system, every sprint.
My background spans editorial work, creative direction, brand development, and writing. I've spent years inside projects of different kinds — working with writers, founders, artists, and creative businesses whose material was real but whose clarity wasn't quite there yet. That gap is what I'm built to close.
Outside the work: I'm on Are.na, thinking in references. You can find my writing on Substack or read my book The Defiant Creative Process.
